3D Zebra Stripe Crosswalk in Iceland Slows Traffic with Stunning Optical Illusion…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

By Jessica Stewart on My Modern Met site:

The use of illusion in art is nothing new, but a small town in Iceland is using the effect to help with public safety and traffic issues. In the small fishing village of Ísafjörður, a 3D pedestrian crossing was painted last month in an effort to slow traffic on a narrow street. The eye-popping illusion gives the effect of walking on air as pedestrians move from one side of the street to the other.

Environmental commissioner Ralf Trylla came up with the idea after seeing a similar project in New Delhi, India. Trylla was researching creative ideas on how to slow traffic when he stumbled upon the India project and came together with street painting company Vegmálun GÍH to create the effect. They experimented for several weeks before perfecting the technique and painting the crosswalk.

The visual effect is striking, as the…

Night Smoke

O at the Edges

Night Smoke

Incomplete, it rises
only to dissipate

like the griefs we shape,
somehow unnoticed,

beyond reach but felt.
Last night’s moon, the glance.

Forgotten stars, a withheld
kiss, words we never formed.

How difficult to be lost.
So easy to remain unseen.

A Note From Abroad

March 25th ~ Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

We are hopping forward a few days, and I will need to fill in the blanks after we get home. Our first three days with Gate 1 covered much of the same sites we had already visited on our Intrepid tour, including additional visits to Angkor Wat as well as another Floating Village. I have a huge number of photos to sort through at a later time as well as I want to eventually do a wrap up post for Cambodia. But for now, continuing on with arriving in Vietnam.

Been waiting a long time to say, “GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!”

Ben's Bitter Blog

Everyone goes through peaks and valleys or as I like to call them The Middle of the Sun during Summer and Middle of the Antarctic in the winter.  You might reach your peak efficiency of the work week on Wednesday at 10 am, or you might reach you absolute low at 3 pm on Tuesday. Or you might have the best year of your life at 32 or the worst one at 31.  A bitter person has only one peak which is when they are born, and then everything else is downhill from there.   It’s basically like getting to the top of the kiddie slide and just complaining so much about the steep one foot decline that everyone around you thinks it’s the world’s tallest slide.  And they are so tired of hearing you complain about your first world problems that they finally decide to stop following your blog…
